Strange nobody mentioned #19?

Discs 2 & 3 are phenomenal!

An awesome Playing and a dynamite segue between China/Rider.

Disc 3 charges with a fabulous Dark Star that disintegrates, only to be followed by an amazing, jazzed-out Mind Left Body jam. High energy Dew & Sugar Mag and a tremendous Eyes that could be a top ten version?

#12 is of course amazing, but #19 in its jazziness, is numero uno by far for me! I also love the Dark Star in #2 and #22 blows my mind! Bo Diddly jams in #30...

I like DP 5, esp for The Other One and the Shakedown with the funny keyboards. Maybe it stick with me since I made 1 disc by taking disc 2 adding a few things from d3 by fades within drum segments to keep a nice flow.

Is there another short TOO that compares?

You cant go wrond with most. 17, is the one I like least for sure. From 8 through eighteen, get all the even ones. They are quite sublime. 33, is very underrated in my book.

You can't go wrong with most of them. The one I like least is 17. 33, isn't talked about much, but it's one I like a lot more than I thought I would. From 8 through eighteen, stick will all the even numbered ones. Pure bliss

My particular favorite is Vol. 12- Providence and Boston. The Boston portion is legendary for the jam after Weather Report Suite, but the Jams from the Providence portion are my favorites of all time, give or take my mood. The opening jam into Chinacat is amazing but the Spanish Jam after the Other One is incredible. I actually and truely belive that the first 10 or so minutes of that jam is the single greatest moment in musical history. The guitar line at the 2:10 minute mark hits me in a way nothing else ever has. I like to refer to it as the reason I'm a Deadhead, even though I wasn't at that show(I was 9--it's no excuse I know, but hey I was 9).

Oh, I agree re: DP12. I've lost track of how many DPs I have, but that one gets the most play of 'em all. I'd lost it at one point and bought another! I can't get enough of the WRS and jam into US Blues..

You know the one I never got into was the very first one. I just don't get with as much incredible shows from that year why this one? I mean the Other One and Trucking are practically not jammed out at all, what's the Other one come to like 5 minutes or something? And the HC Sunshine that was the whole reason for the pick? Yeah it's good but there are certainly better imo ( such as 2-15-73 ). Not to turn this into a negative just figured while we're talking DP.

My .02, I don't have all of them, but almost. My fave is also 18. That Scarlet-Fire is pure bliss, and the O1 floors me every time. I also love 29, the 73 ones from boston and okla and the 9/21/72 one. While not a DP, I really love the 5 disc GD movie soundtrack. Anyone else?

Of course DP 4 and 8, I wore those out.

I bought #16 with high hopes, a show I wanted to like but it didn't grab me.

Then #22 came out, and surprised a lot of us who thought they'd never find tapes of these legendary Tahoe 1968 gigs.

Here's the DP22 setlist:

Viola Lee Blues (19:16), Hurts Me Too (4:13), Dark Star (6:49), China Cat Sunflower (4:38), The Eleven (10:33), Turn On Your Lovelight (12:40), Born Cross Eyed (2:32), Spanish Jam (7:23)

Disc Two:
Morning Dew (8:10), Good Morning Little Schoolgirl (14:39), That's It For The Other One (8:13),I. Cryptical Envelopment - II. The Faster We Go, The Rounder We Get - III. Cryptical Envelopment - New Potato Caboose (9:08), Alligator (3:45), China Cat Sunflower (4:14), The Eleven (7:17), Alligator (6:39), Caution Do Not Stop On Tracks (11:49), Feedback (4:55)

Good comments/reviews on amazon at:

http://www.amazon.com/Dicks-Picks-Vol-22-23-24/dp/B0002VETJA

TWO FROM THE VAULT is probably an even better CD to get of a 1968 live* show, if you don't already have it. Pristine sound for the time/technical limits.

*August 23-24 1968 at the Shrine Auditorium

DL'ed the relevant dates at your suggestion (2/3/78, 2/5/78). Put 'em on a data cd for my cd player. Got up this a.m. after a lousy night, and listened while working out. Totally rotated my day to the positive. Pumping pounding awesome great Dead. Thanks!!!
